This page is to provide information about what you will have to do in attempting to raise a caterpillar to its final adult stage of butterfly or moth.  Since different species require different conditions, I will change this page from time to time to provide information gained from my own experience with various Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths).

SPICEBUSH SWALLOWTAIL CATERPILLARS

Check out my new post on spicebush swallowtails. These are interesting to raise because of color changing as they mature.  Note the fake eyes and the threatening posture.  The combination would scare off many would be predators !  Then, for further protection, they hide in “tents” they make from the spicebush leaves they feed on.
